Administrative/Setup Questions Q: How do I set up Fiction and Non-fiction Connection to search my library’s catalog?

Repeat to set up Non-Fiction Connection Q: How do I set up remote access for my patrons to use from home?
A: First you will need to authenticate visitors to your website, and provide a link after that authentication that redirects them to http://www.fictionconnection.com and http://www.nonfictionconnection.com. To supply us with this URL, please contact Bowker Technical Support. Q: What are the system requirements?

General Questions Q: What do the terms in the word cloud signify?
A: The word cloud shows related terms to the original search terms. AquaBrowser Library compares the original search terms to the Fiction Connection data and Non-Fiction Connection data and creates a "word cloud" of associations or overviews of areas of interest. These words are suggestions for discovering new information or to users come up with ideas for a new search. The word cloud includes the most relevant associations, foreign language translations, spelling variations, and synonyms. Q: How often are these resources updated and does it include forthcoming titles?
A: Once a month. Titles are profiled as they are reviewed, so if a title is reviewed three months pre-publication, it will be profiled at that time. Q: How far back does coverage go?
A: 1997. Older titles by popular authors, classics and titles that are part of a series were added to improve coverage. A future project will include further building our back list. Q: Is there a unique identifier for the ISBN’s?
A: Yes, when you click on File Download and select the ISBN-13 file, the first number is a unique identifier, the 2nd numbers are the 10-digit ISBN, and the 3rd numbers are the 13# digit ISBN. Q: Does Fiction and Non-Fiction Connection include out of print titles?
A: Yes, since it is a readers’ advisory tool and the libraries using it may have many out of print titles on their shelves that their patrons might still be interested in. All editions -- in print and out of print -- are listed on the detailed title display screen. Q: Does Fiction Connection include children’s and young adult titles?
A: Yes, we started profiling children’s and young adult titles in January 2005 and profile all reviewed titles for grades 3 and up. Q: Is there a walk-through of how to use Fiction Connection?
A:Yes, just visit http://www.bowkersupport.com/fchelp/fctour.asp Q: Is there a way to break Fiction and Biography sections into sub-categories (i.e. General, Sci-fi, Large Print, Mysteries)?
A:Unfortunately, no. Wilson data is only structured by fiction and biography, then organized alphabetically, or by author.
